In Caesar's Shadow...

The sun sinks into the sea
     like a fiery ladle
Somewhere far off
     in the Cradle of Civilization
it rises steaming and gleaming,
     casting light and throwing shadows
on the Columns of the Acropolis...
    What modern day metropolis can compare
to the wonders of the ancient world;
     the marvel of Athens,
the mysteries that lie in the rolling dunes
     and sands of Egypt,
the glory that was Rome,
     the Seven Wonders of the World,
Aztec, Toltec and Mayan pyramids
     when man was just starting to command
and become Lord of the Earth?
     But we lost our way on this path
for the World we have made
     is choking the Earth
in smog, in oil, in tainted soil
     in lives lost to the hive
knowing nothing, believing nothing
     as we toil with tired backs
and broken hearts
     for crumbs from some master's plate
Is it too late?
     i think not but we should not wait
for tomorrow may never come
     and now is always the time...
