Watercolor sky
as the colors run into each other
Clouds black as the night that's passing
fade into soft blue, paling, then somehow changing
to rose from cream and a thousand other hues
Trees outlined as a lone squirrel climbs
to the topmost branch to watch the dawn with me
holding an acorn still green as grass
tightly in his tiny grasp
Venus glows like an ember risen
from the flames and warmth
the as yet seen sun is giving
lighting a fire upon the pyre
separating the dead from the living
Decide quickly...
